Surviving & Thriving: Stories from Dynamic Entrepreneurs, 10:00-11:00am

These unique individuals from various industries gather to take part in an engaging dialogue on their success and challenges in their respective fields. They will share stories about their path into the business world, and discuss the factors that motivated them to strive for excellence. Panelists include: Henry D. Fahman (CEO – Providential Holdings), Charles Phan (Owner – Slanted Door Restaurant), Alee Cao (Owner – The Cao Institute), Tan Le (President – Emotiv Systems), and moderated by John Nguyen (Vice President – Providential Holdings).

Strengthening Communities Through Non-Profit Involvement, 11:15-12:15pm

This incredible panel of crusaders will share the visions and the amazing work that their respective non-profit organizations have accomplished in an effort to transform the lives of individuals, families, and communities both here in the U.S. and in Vietnam. The panel will share and provide valuable insights to how we, as individuals and as a community, can make a tangible contribution in changing the lives of others. This fascinating panel brings together Leyna Nguyen (News Anchor – KCAL) and Dr. Linda Trinh Vo (Professor – University of California, Irvine), both of whom provide details about the various organizations they are involved in. The panel also includes Amy Nguyen (CPP Deputy Director – UNAVSA), Laura Ward (Development Officer - East Meets West Foundation), and former NFL standout Dat Nguyen, who will be discussing his role in the Coach for College program. Hong Vo (CPP Co-Director – UNAVSA) will moderate this panel.

Empowering the Community Through Politics & Law, 2:00-3:00pm

This extraordinary panel of Vietnamese political and judicial leaders will share their path to politics and judgeship and the factors that motivated them to serve our communities, cities, and states. The panel will be engaged in a robust discussion about the current political and legal issues and movements affecting Vietnamese Americans today, the future roles of Vietnamese Americans in politics and law, and how our community can mobilize to affect change and make our voices heard. This highly-selective group includes Jacqueline Duong (Judge – Santa Clara County Superior Court), John Q. Duong (Former Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders), Dr. KimOanh Nguyen-Lam  (Boardmember - Garden Grove Board of Education), and Van Tran (Assemblyman – State of California). The discussion will be led by moderator Luan K. Phan (President – Vietnamese American Bar Association of Southern California).

Achievement & Challenges in Film, 3:15-4:15pm

This astounding group will lead a panel discussion on the topics of the past, present and future of Vietnamese American films, motivators and influences driving those in film, insights on the film making process, and the personal challenges, barriers, and sense of fulfillment of storytelling and creating art. This remarkable panel of Vietnamese Americans from the entertainment industry and academia joins together Dustin Nguyen (Actor - 21 Jump Street, The Rebel), Timothy Bui (Director - Three Seasons, Green Dragon), Ysa Le (Director – Vietnamese International Film Festival), Dr. Mariam Lam (Professor – University of California, Riverside), Bao Tranchi (Costume and Fashion Designer), Stephane Gauger (Owl and the Sparrow)  to celebrate and reflect on Vietnamese American’s accomplishments and contributions in film.
