NEWPORT BEACH, CA – Participants from throughout the country are expected to convene on Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Vietnamese American Summit™ leadership conference, which will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of Vietnamese Americans and discuss their past and future impact in such areas as film, media, business, law, politics, and community outreach.
This conference provides a unique venue for Vietnamese Americans of various backgrounds – students, professionals, actors, executives, educators, journalists, artists, community leaders – to come together to share life and career stories and to unite and inspire. Panel topics, start times, and participants are as follows:
Surviving & Thriving: Stories from Dynamic Entrepreneurs: 10:00-11:00am
Panelists: Henry D. Fahman (CEO – Providential Holdings), Charles Phan (Owner – Slanted Door Restaurant), Alee Cao (Owner – The Cao Institute/Paul Mitchell The School), and Tan Le (President – Emotiv Systems). The discussion will be led by moderator John Nguyen (Vice President – Providential Holdings).
Strengthening Communities Through Non-Profit Works: 11:15-12:15pm
Panelists: Leyna Nguyen, (President - Love Across the Ocean), Dr. Linda Trinh Vo (Professor – University of California, Irvine), Amy Nguyen (CPP Deputy Director – UNAVSA), Laura Ward (Development Officer - East Meets West Foundation), and former NFL standout Dat Nguyen (Mentor – Coach for College). The discussion will be led by moderator Hong Vo (CPP Co-Director – UNAVSA).
Empowering the Community Through Politics & Law: 2:00-3:00pm
Panelists: Jacqueline Duong (Judge – Santa Clara County Superior Court), John Q. Duong (Former Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders), Dr. KimOanh Nguyen-Lam (Boardmember - Garden Grove Board of Education), and Van Tran (Assemblyman – State of California). The discussion will be led by moderator Luan K. Phan (President – Vietnamese American Bar Association of Southern California).
Achievement & Challenges in Film: 3:15-4:15pm
Panelists: Dustin Nguyen (Actor - 21 Jump Street, The Rebel), Timothy Bui (Director - Three Seasons, Green Dragon), Ysa Le (Director – Vietnamese International Film Festival), Bao Tranchi (Costume and Fashion Designer),
Stephane Gauger (Owl and the Sparrow)
. The discussion will be led by moderator Dr. Mariam Lam (Professor – University of California, Riverside).
The Vietnamese American Summit™ is part of the Vietnamese American National Gala™ (VANG™), a national biennial celebration of Vietnamese heritage and pride.
